Resumo Neste ensaio procuro dar um testemunho sobre meu contato com Paulo Freire e Nita Freire desde nosso primeiro encontro, quando eu cursava o doutorado na Universidade de Minnesota, nos Estados Unidos. Reputo a convivência com este extraordinário mestre e sua esposa como um dos fatos mais importantes na minha caminhada pessoal e profissional. Compartilhei com Paulo e Nita momentos maravilhosos em que sempre aprendi não só sobre educação, política, artes, costumes e outros temas correlatos, mas também e principalmente sobre o amor, a ternura, o carinho, que os Freire sempre devotaram à humanidade e particularmente aos que com eles tiveram a chance de conviver. Abstract In this essay I try to give testimony regarding my contacts with Paulo and Nita Freire beginning when we first met when I was a doctoral student at the University of Minnesota in the United States. Becoming a friend of this extraordinary man and of his lovely wife was undoubtedly a high point in my personal and professional path. Sharing wonderful moments with Paulo and Nita provided me with opportunities to learn more, not only about pedagogy, liberation, arts, conduct, and other topics we used to discuss, but also about love, tenderness, and caring, feelings which the Freires bestowed to humanity in general and particularly to those who were counted among their friends
