The representation of feminist ideology in Jean P. Sasson’s princess from the character of Sultana

Abstract

This research analyzed about the Sultana’s characterizations and the representation of feminist ideology in Sultana’s characterization. The feminist approach is used to analyze women problem. The researcher finding the data of Sultana’s characterization based on the statement in the story, the behavior and her chatting with round character. The feminist value, the researcher taken the data from books that related to feminist ideology. The researcher used feminist literary criticism method to analyze Sultana’s characterization in Jean P. Sasson Princess. Princess was written by Jean P. Sasson. It present about woman’s spirit to change patriachal culture in the world in particulary in her city. Sultana is the name of main character in this story. She can prove that women can be as equal as men. Sultana always tries to reach what she wants. She is able to achieve a high education, Sultana could struggle for her ambition to get higher education. Sultana as a courageous woman. She is take upon to say to her father that she wants to see her bridegroom before married because in Kingdom Saudi Arabia the bridegroom and bride do not know each other or the marriage is arranged by their parents and family. Not only courageous but also Sultana is decisive woman, She will not accept another woman and she loves her children and always takes care of them. Sultana also an educated woman proved when she could reach the master of philosophy degree and she joined with her friend to form the women association to change tradition culture in her country to get freedom of movement and to vote. The researcher finds Sultana as character who represents feminist ideology by being a courageous, optimistic, educated, decisive, patience, independent, and merciful woman
