Methods forteaching these concepts in the middle grades are discussed in tandem as thematerial is presented.MTHM509 Title Measurement in the Middle Grades.Prerequisites MTHM 507 and permission of graduate program coordinator.Special Fee Special fee.Number and type of credits 3 hours lecture.Course Description Topics are organized around the fundamental and unifying topic of measurement.What attributes of an object are measurable?  How are those attributesmeasured?  What system of measurement should be used?  What are the units andhow are the results converted to other systems?  Measurement is a topic thatis found across the school curriculum, not just in the mathematics curriculum,and thus it is a topic that can be used to develop cross-subject discussionsand investigations.  Methods for teaching measurement in the middle grades arediscussed in tandem with the content being studied.MTHM511 Title Workshop in Mathematics Education.Prerequisites MTHM 505 and permission of Graduate Program Coordinator.Number and type of credits 3 hours lecture.Course Description Specific contemporary topics and current issues in school mathematics.  May berepeated for a maximum of 6 credits as long as the topic is different.MTTH131 Title Freshman Studio I.Special Fee Special fee.Course Description A rehearsal and performance laboratory, focusing on musical theatre materialwith an emphasis on thorough and efficient preparation as the student developsmovement and musicianship skills and ensemble performance technique.MTTH132 Title Acting for the Singer I.Prerequisites MUCP 101 or equivalent.  Music and Musical Theatre majors only.  Departmentalapproval.Number and type of credits 2 hours lecture.Course Description Acting for the singer is a music performance course focused on the issues ofacting in musical/dramatic works.  Students will learn an analytical processfor the construction and performance of a dramatically viable character withina musical/dramatic work, and apply this process to the preparation of 3-4songs/arias/duets during the course of each semester.Musical TheatreMTTH133 Title Vocal Technique for Musical Theatre.Number and type of credits 2 hours lecture.Course Description Vocal technique class for first year Musical Theatre majors.  Study of basicanatomy and function of the voice.  Study of singing through vocal exercisesand healthy and optimal production including breath management, resonance,MTTH133 Course Description projection, and good lyric diction.MTTH231 Title Acting for the Singer II.Prerequisites MTTH 132.Number and type of credits 2 hours lecture.Course Description Acting for the Singer II is a continuation of Acting for the Singer I, amusical performance course focused on the issues of acting in musical/dramaticworks.  Students will continue to practice an analytical process for theconstruction and performance of a dramatically viable character within amusical/dramatic work, and apply this process to the preparation of 4-5songs/arias/duets during the course of each semester.MTTH331 Title Musical Theatre Repertoire and Audition Technique.Prerequisites MTTH 231.Number and type of credits 3 hours laboratory.Course Description A lab intensive focusing on advanced song interpretation, musical theatreaudition technique for singing actors, and the development of an individualand extensive song portfolio concurrent with industry standards andexpectations.MTTH421 Title Songwriting I.Prerequisites MUCP 101 and MUCP 102.Number and type of credits 2 hours lecture.Course Description Songwriting I is a music composition course concentrating on the issuesspecific to songwriting including (but not limited to) song form, lyricstructure, lyric techniques, issues of prosody, dramatic uses of song form,and the relationship of musical structure to meaning.  Students will composesongs utilizing structural tools and organizing principles gleaned byanalyzing songs from various chronological and stylistic periods includingsongs by Mozart, Schubert, Bessie Smith, Gershwin, Rodgers and Hammerstein,
