La Incidencia de Anemia Ferropénica existente en los estudiantes del Instituto de Educación especial “Cotopaxi” del cantón Latacunga, fue determinada por la realización de un hemograma completo en el Analizador de hematología automático. Se identifico los estudiantes con valores de hematocritos y hemoglobinas bajos y se procedió a ejecutar las pruebas de Hierro sérico, Capacidad de fijación de hierro, y la ferritina todas estas pruebas se realizaron en el analizador de química clínica, utilizando la técnica de turbidimetría. Las muestras tomadas fueron de 111 estudiantes de los cuales el Retardo Mental tiene mayor incidencia con el 41%, mientras que la deficiencia auditiva está considerada dentro del 22%, seguido de la parálisis cerebral con el 18%, el síndrome de Down con el 15%, mientras que el 3% posee el Autismo y el S. de Moebius con el 1%. Se concluye que el 21% de estudiantes del instituto de educación especial “Cotopaxi” tiene anemia, mientras que el 79% no presentan cuadro de anemia. Complementario a este estudio se realizó un examen coproparasitario en el cual el 80% de los estudiantes estan parasitados. Se recomienda dar atención médica continua y destinar a este grupo poblacional con capacidades especiales, tratamiento de salud preventiva, para que puedan tener una mejor calidad de vida.The
