Improving the psychiatric interview in the physician assistant behavioral medicine curriculum: A novel approach

Abstract

Given the rising number of patients in the United States with mental health disorders, physician assistant (PA) students must develop the psychiatric history taking and mental status examination skills necessary to assess these patients. The purpose of this study was to enhance the PA didactic behavioral medicine course by incorporating clinical psychology students as standardized patients, and to assess the effectiveness of this on students\u27 perceived ability to perform psychiatric evaluations
