Acute esophageal necrosis is a rare event. This disease is defined as a diffuse blackened aspect of the esophagus observed by upper gastrointestinal endoscopy associated with the histopathological findings of necrosis of the esophageal mucosa. In this article we make the report of a masculine 80 year-old patient who was admitted with upper digestive bleeding in the “Arnaldo Milián Castro” Hospital in Santa Clara. He was diagnosed with an acute esophageal necrosis. After the indication of medical treatment the patient had a satisfactory clinical course and he was discharged from the institution.La esofagitis necrotizante aguda es una enfermedad rara que se reconoce por el aspecto negro difuso del esófago asociado a cambios histopatológicos de necrosis de la mucosa esofágica que se aprecia en la endoscopia. Se presenta un paciente masculino de 80 años que fue ingresado en el Hospital “Arnaldo Milián Castro” por presentar un sangrado digestivo alto al que se le diagnosticó una necrosis esofágica aguda; luego de la aplicación de tratamiento médico el paciente evolucionó satisfactoriamente y fue egresado de la institución
