The purpose of this paper was to survey the recent literature, methods, and materials in reading instruction for the deaf and the hard-of-hearing, and to suggest their applicability to remedial instruction for the hard-of-hearing. The specific objectives were: 1. Since the hard-of-hearing are often linguistically as well as acoustically deficient, what intelligence, general achievement, and reading tests are recommended as appropriate measures of their capabilities? 2. What methods are recommended and useful in teaching reading to the deaf and hard-of-hearing? 3- How are the above methods applicable to remedial reading instruction for the hard-of-hearing? 4.
