Lithuanians who underwent Soviet victimization had to meet in Siberia under complicated circumstance hundreds of other nations. Lithuanian own traditional, especially instrumental, music making helped them to get in touch even with the hostile people. In spite of considerable cultural or ideological differences, Lithuanians readily socialized with the nations, relationship with which was based on respect and empathy. Musical interchange and cooperation started too. Public representation of their own traditional musical culture was of great relevance for Lithuanians. Having learned more of each other in over ten years, some local people appreciated Lithuanian songs as well. In length of time the cultural assimilation of Lithuanian children and youth with other nations, especially Russians, also grew. Their Lithuanian cultural identity usually got stronger later – in some cases, just after their return to Lithuania.Key words: Soviet period, Siberia, Lithuanians, European and Asian nations, traditional music making
