Camp Abilities After 20 years: Where We Have Been and Where We Are Going

Abstract

Camp Abilities is a developmental sports camp for children with visual impairments. It began at The College at Brockport in 1996 and runs for one week each summer. The purposes are: to empower children with VI to be involved in sports, to train future teachers on how to teach children with VI, to conduct much needed research in this area, and to raise awareness in communities about the skills and abilities of children with VI. The Camp Abilities model has been replicated in over 19 locations in the US, and in 8 other countries and growing
