O Estado do Maranhão com seus 640 km de litoral contribui de forma efetiva com grande parte do pescado produzido no Brasil, sendo que a região litorânea de Humberto de Campos e Primeira Cruz contribui notoriamente com a produção maranhense. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo caracterizar a atividade pesqueira destes municípios a fim de contribuir para maior conhecimento desta atividade. O levantamento das informações com pescadores e marisqueiros locais através da aplicação de questionários semi-estruturados possibilitou reconhecer que a atividade de extração de organismos aquáticos é realizada de forma intensa na região, abrangendo ampla variedade de produtos do mar como peixes, crustáceos e molusco bivalves, porém o maior percentual da população pesqueira prioriza a captura do camarão em busca da obtenção de maiores lucros.Palavras-chaves: pesca. camarão. mariscagem. extrativismo.ABSTRACTCaracterization of artisanal fisheries in the municipalities Humberto de Campos and Primeira Cruz-MaranhãoThe State of Maranhão have 640km of coastline and contributes effectively with of the fish productcion in Brazil, being that the coatal region of Humberto de Campos and Primeira Cruz contributes undoubtedly to the production of Maranhão.
