Producing a multicultural society in regional Victoria: the settlement of Iraqi refugees in the City of Greater Shepparton and District

Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to explore the ways in which the concepts and policies which constitute something called `multiculturalism' in Australia operate at a regional level. In particular, I will examine the ways in which this can be seen through both service structures and concepts of cultural difference. These issues will be explored through a case study of the settlement of Iraqi refugees in the City of Greater Shepparton and District in Victoria. The point of settlement is the focus of the study as it is one area in which multicultural issues are evident
