Miller, Pro-fessor of Law and Dean of the School of Law of the Catholic University ofAmerica, will retire as Dean at the end of the present academic year, andWHEREAS Vernon Miller for over forty years has brought warmth anddistinction to the teaching of the law and knowledge and understanding tothe students whose good fortune it was to study under him in the LawSchools of St. Thomas (1926-30), the University of Oregon (1930-31), Mar-quette University (1931-38), and of the Universities next mentioned, andWHEREAS for some twenty-eight of those years Dean Miller has made asignificant contribution to legal education as Dean of the Law Schools ofLoyola University in New Orleans (1940-51), the University of San Fran-cisco (1951-54), and the Catholic University of America in the City ofWashington (1954 until the present), andWHEREAS during his entire professional life Vernon Miller has con-tributed to the enrichment and improvement of legal education throughactive participation in the work of the Association of American Law Schoolswhich he served in many capacities, including distinguished service as thelast elected Secretary-Treasurer of the Association and then as its President,andWHEREAS the Board of Editors of the Catholic University Law Reviewpropose to dedicate the 1968 Spring issue to Dean Miller,NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Law Faculty of Wash-ington and Lee University that the aforesaid Board of Editors be invitedin the dedicatory issue to communicate to Dean Miller this expression ofour high esteem and our sincere good wishes for his future happiness./s/ Clayton E.
