In 1963, 46,444 samples were tested compared to 52,472 in 1964. These figures do not include the thousands of samples tested in commercial laboratories. A summary of the 1964 soil test results has been prepared and is available for distribution . This summary shows the number of samples tested in each county along with the percentage testing in the various categories for acidity, available phosphorus and available potassium. It should be pointed out that samples from fields that have been in tobacco usually test high in available phosphorus and potassium and may be more acid than samples obtained from fields that have been in other crops. Another factor that must be considered is that samples are not obtained from all farms in the county . Even though these limitations exist, this summary is the best guide available as to ~ the lime and fertilizer needs in each county.
