JtJ 1{tyt£~ENDED LIST by D B Egli Origin York soybean, a pure line selection developed by the Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station from a cross of Dorman X Hood, was recently added to the recommended list for Kentucky. It was released jointly in 1967 by Virginia , Mary-land, and North Carolina . Description and Characteristics York has purple flowers and gray pubescence. Pods are predominantly two-seeded. The yellow seeds are slightly off-round with a buff hilum. York has high resistance to purple seed stain and moderate resistance to phytophthora rot and bacterial pustule diseases . York seed has generally been free of seed coat mottling. Performance Tests comparing York to Hill and Dare were conducted at four locations in Kentucky for periods varying from 2 to 4 years. York matured slightly earlier than Dare and 7 to 10 days later than Hill. Its seed quality, protein and oil content, and height did not differ significantly from Hill and Dare . Seed size is generally larger than Hill and Dare (Hill-3400, Dare-3000, and York-2600 seeds/pound) . Seed yield h_as been somewhat higher than Hill and approximately equal to Dare (see table on e. following page) . York exhibits some tendency to be more resistant to lodging than Hill and Dare .
