INVOLVEMENT OF THE FACULTY OF MINING, GEOLOGY & PETROLEUM ENGINEERING IN TECHNICAL COOPERATION OF THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA WITH THE INTERNATIONAL ATOMIC ENERGY AGENCY

Abstract

U članku se problematizira pitanje proizvodnje energije iz nuklearnih izvora razmatrajući sve veću potrebu za energijom u svjetskim razmjerima, te prednosti i nedostatke korištenja nuklearne energije. Međunarodna agencija za atomsku energiju (IAEA) promovira miroljubivu uporabu nuklearne energije, a Državni zavod za radiološku i nuklearnu sigurnost (DZNRS) nadzire uporabu izvora ionizirajućeg zračenja u Republici Hrvatskoj. Opisana je uloga programa tehničke suradnje IAEA u kojima sudjeluje i RH, a detaljnije je prikazan program pod nazivom INT9173 "Training in Radioactive Waste Disposal Technologies in Underground Research Facilities - URFs". Značaj uključenosti hrvatskih znanstvenika i eksperata u navedenom projektu tehničke suradnje iz područja gospodarenja radioaktivnim otpadom prikazan je kroz aktivnosti koje su provedene tijekom razdoblja od 2009. godine do danas, uzimajući u vidu obveze RH vezano za zbrinjavanje radioaktivnog otpada nastalog radom NE Krško.The article discusses the question of energy production from nuclear sources considering the growing demand for energy worldwide, the advantages and disadvantages of using nuclear energy. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) promotes the peaceful use of nuclear energy, and the State Office for Radiological and Nuclear Safety (DZNRS) monitors the use of ionizing radiation sources in Republic of Croatia. Paper describes the role of the IAEA technical cooperation program involving Croatia (INT9173 "Training in Radioactive Waste Disposal Technologies in Underground Research Facilities - URFs"). The importance of the involvement of Croatian scientists and experts, in the said project of technical cooperation in the field of radioactive waste management, is presented through activities conducted during the period since 2009 to date, taking into account Croatia\u27s obligations regarding the disposal of radioactive waste generated by operation of the nuclear power plant Krško
