Background: The habits of hand hygiene in hospital patients are still very low, as many as 60% of patients never do hand hygiene. Failure to do good and proper hand hygiene is the main cause of nosocomial infection besides the knowledge and attitude of hand hygiene patient is still not good, so hand hygiene health education is needed in patient being treated because patient is the first element that can spread nosocomial infection.
Aim: To know the influence of health education with leaflet on knowledge and attitude of patient hygiene in Yoseph I Hospital Paviliun. RK. Charitas Palembang.
Method: The study used pre-experiment with one group pretest posstest design. The sample was 44 respondents with total sampling technique.
Result: The result of the bivariate analysis using kendall tau test found of the showed that there was an influence between health education and leaflet on the knowledge of hand hygiene before and after health education with p-value 0.001<0,05 and there was an influence between health education and leaflet on patient hand hygiene attitude before And after being given health education with p-value 0.001<0,05. From the result of the research, it is hoped that the patient will be able to hand hygiene and expected the role of nurse as educator to always provide hand hygiene health education in prevention of nosocomial infection in health service
