Giovanni Battista Montini e l'Arte: le grandi premesse (1920-1925). Da Maritain agli artisti. Una mostra e le sue ragioni

Abstract

Il saggio \ue8 il primo contributo di ricerca del volumePaolo VI e l\u2019arte il coraggio della contemporaneit\ue0, nato in seno alla Collezione di arte contemporanea \u201cArte e Spiritualit\ue0\u201d di Brescia e in collaborazione con la citt\ue0 che ha dato i natali a Giovanni Battista Montini, a cent\u2019anni da quell\u2019evento. A partire dalla Collezione, frutto dell\u2019azione di un arcivescovo e poi di un papa che aveva rilanciato agli artisti contemporanei la sfida di una collaborazione non subordinata, lo studio si spinge a risalire alle origini di un tale pensiero per coglierne l\u2019intelligenza, le linee di sviluppo,le connessioni, il cuore che lo ha mosso e le personalit\ue0 che lo hanno innervato. La cultura artistica montiniana, gi\ue0 dagli anni Venti e per tutto il periodo fra le due guerre, epoca in cui s\u2019incentra la nuova riflessione, avviene soprattutto in contatto con il lavoro culturale che Jacques e Ra\uefssa Maritain conducono in questa direzione insieme a un gruppo d\u2019intellettuali, per i quali,al di l\ue0 di ogni scelta confessionale, viene messa a tema la natura dei legami fra le categorie dell\u2019arte e della spiritualit\ue0, come pi\uf9 ampiamente l\u2019accordo tra ragione e fede. Tali rapporti influiscono reciprocamente sia sulla teoria artistica che gli intellettuali come Maritain vanno elaborando, sia sull\u2019autonomo operato degli artisti stessi. Lo studio, che ha usufruito dell\u2019apertura di diversi archivi e delle corpose corrispondenze fra gli attori di questo intreccio complesso e ricchissimo, offre un patrimonio d\u2019informazioni prezioso che permette di comprendere le conoscenze, lo svolgimento degli avvenimenti, le difficolt\ue0, i dubbi, le speranzedi quel cot\ue9 culturale, che impressiona per l\u2019enorme lavoro svolto e il sostegno reciproco profuso. La scelta degli artisti presentati \ue8 volta a restituire l\u2019origine di un discorso sull\u2019arte e la sua personalizzazione in differenti percorsi. Il saggio fa riferimento anche a un\u2019antologia di scritti pubblicati in appendice dei diversi attori di questa interlocuzione, alcuni inediti e per la prima volta tradotti.The essay is the first research contribution of the volume Paolo VI and the courage of contemporary art, created within the collection of contemporary art "Art and Spirituality" in Brescia and in collaboration with the city that gave birth to Giovanni Battista Montini, a hundred years since that event. Starting from the Collection, created by an archbishop and then a pope who had challenged contemporary artists to a not subordinated partnership, the study goes back to the origins of such a thought in order to understand the intelligence, the development lines, the connections, the reason that moved him and the personalities that have strengthen it. Since the twenties and throughout the period between the two wars when the new reflection focuses, the artistic Montinian culture is in contact mainly with the cultural work that Jacques and Ra\uefssa Maritain lead in this direction with a group intellectuals, with who, beyond any confessional choice, they put in issue the nature of the links between the categories of art and spirituality and, more widely, the agreement between reason and faith. These relationships influence each other both on the artistic theory that intellectuals like Jacques Maritain are working on, and on the independent work of the artists themselves. The study used the opening of several archives and different full-bodied correspondences between the actors of this complex and rich interplay, and offers a patrimony of valuable information that allows us to understand the knowledge, the course of events, difficulties, doubts , hopes of that cultural aspect which is impressive for the enormous work done and for the mutual support efforts. The choice of the artist aims to give back the origin of a discourse on art and its customization in different paths. The essay also refers to an anthology of writings of the different actors of this dialogue published in the appendix, some of which are new and translated for the first time
