Abstract

El pintor andaluz José Arpa Perea ha sido objeto en los últimos años de un bien justificado proceso de revalorización que ha permitido conocer mejor su magnífica producción pictórica dentro del contexto de la pintura española de finales de siglo XIX e inicios del XX. No obstante, su obra nos sigue deparando interesantes sorpresas como el ciclo inspirado en escenas de Don Quijote, un total de cuarenta y seis lienzos de pequeño tamaño que pueden ser considerados como una de las mejores series pictóricas de la novela cervantina.In recent years the work of the Andalusian painter José Arpa Perea has been revaluated, which has given us a greater insight into his magnificent artistic work in the context of Spanish painting of the turn of the last century. However his work still provides us with interesting surprises, and one of these is the cycle of paintings inspired by scenes from Don Quixote, a series of forty-six small-sized works which can be considered one of the best series of paintings which illustrate scenes from Cervantes’ novel
