PENGARUH SUPLEMENTASI GETAH PEPAYA (Carica papaya) DALAM RANSUM
TERHADAP KECERNAAN BAHAN KERING DAN BAHAN ORGANIK PADA KELINCI
NEW ZEALAND WHITE JANTAN
The high quality feed with sufficient quantity is needed by the livestock to
gain an optimal productivity. The high quality feed is the feed containing
complete nutrient, meanwhile it is also expected to have high digestion value so
that the nutrient contained in it can be used by the livestock optimally. There are
many ways can be done to increase the feed’s digestion value, one of them is by
adding feed supplement of enzyme which helps the feed digestion. Papaya sap is
one of uncommon material used as a feed supplement in farm sector. Papaya sap
contains proteolysis enzyme which can help feed digestion especially protein.
With the papaya sap supplementation within the ration, it is expected to increase
the value of feed digestion, both for dry and organic matter.
This experiment intends to evaluate the effect of papaya (carica papaya)
sap supplementation with different level of dosage toward dry and organic matter
digestion of male NZW Rabbits. It has done in the Hall of Breeding and
Cultivation of Rabbit, Agriculture Department of Surakarta, which is located in
Balekambang, Surakarta. It is held from April 28th until June 18th 2007. Used 16
male New Zealand White Rabbits, which are divided into four treatments and four
repeatition, each repeatition used one rabbit. This study used the Complete
Randomized Design (CRD) with unequalibrate data. Ration given is peanut straw
and BR2 concentrate produced by PT. Japfa Comfeed Indonesia. The treatment
feed given is papaya (carica papaya) supplementation toward the ration, each of
them is ration without papaya sap supplementation as control (P0), ration with
papaya sap of 0,2 g/kg body weight (P1), ration with papaya sap of 0,4 g/kg body
weight (P2), and ration with papaya sap of 0,6 g/kg body weight. The research
variable used is dry matter consumption, organic matter consumption, dry matter
digestion, and organic matter digestion.
From the research result, the data for dry matter consumption
(gram/head/day) of P0, P1, P2, and P3 respectively are 52,91; 52,37; 56,51;
55,16. Meanwhile, for organic matter consumption (gram/head/day) for P0, P1,
P2, and P3 are 35,94; 34,65; 38,67; 37,7. Next, for dry matter digestion (%) the
data are 61,14; 59,03; 59,42; 66,17. Then, for organic matter digestion, the data
respectively are 59,54; 51,89; 54,96; 61,48. Variance analysis showed that papaya

(carica papaya) sap supplementation until 0,6 g/kg bodi weight dosage is
unsignificantly different. It is concluded that the papaya (Carica papaya) sap
supplementation until 0,6 g/kg body weight dosage could not increase both the
consumption and the digestion of dry and organic matter of New Zealand White
Male Rabbits.
