Abstract
En 1902 abría sus puertas la parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, un templo enclavado en el corazón de Manhattan que nacía destinado a los católicos de lengua española que vivían en Nueva York. Con este artículo pretendemos comprender los motivos que condujeron a la apertura de una parroquia para los hispanoparlantes en medio de una ciudad que tenía el inglés como lengua común, y las razones por las cuales se pusieron al frente de la misma unos religiosos franceses.In 1902 the parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe opened its doors in the heart of Manhattan. The church was intended for the Spanish-speaking Catholics who lived in New York. With this article we try to understand the reasons that led to the opening of a parish for Spanish speakers in the middle of a city that had English as first language and the reasons why some French religious were put in charge of it
