Itschief value lies in the careful selection that has been made fromthe large number of titles in this field. It gives moreover usefulannotations to all items and furnishes trade information, includingan estimate of prices on the out-of-print books. Although intendedprimarily for the small library, it will be serviceable to all librar-ies and will prove to be of very great usefulness to private col··lectors of Pacific Northwest Americana.The work is arranged by subject under some twenty mainheads. A table of contents and an author index is furnished. It iswell printed and may serve as a model for future publications ofits kind. The author has described the art style of theNorth Pacific Coast tribes through studying the specimens at theBerlin Museum and through the use of Boas' and Swanton's ac-counts of the Kwakiutl and I-Iaida. Considering that the authorha,s had no actual contact with the people, he has caught the spiritof the work very well. The illustrations are very excellent amIdone with the same care that has distinguished other volumes ofthis series and made them so valuable as records of art.ERNA GUNTHER
