Abstract
En este ensayo se presenta un análisis sobre el proceso de exclusión física y simbólica de los sectores populares del espacio público y la manera como los sectores dirigentes de la ciudad de Cartagena se han apropiado sistemáticamente del escenario público para proyectar en él las acciones representativas de las élites de la ciudad. Así mismo se examina cómo ese proceso de apropiación simbólico del espacio público por parte de los sectores hegemónicos, tiene como fin construir una memoria histórica de la ciudad en la que los miembros de sus clases son los únicos que, con sus acciones, representan la fundación de la República y el Estado-Nación. ABSTRACT In this essay is shown an analysis of the process on the physical and symbolic exclusion of the popular zones from the public area, and the way in which the leaders of the city of Cartagena have systematically taken advantage of the public stage to display in it the representative actions of the city elites. There is also an examination on how this process of symbolic appropriation of the public area by the powerful sectors, aims at building up a historical memory of the city in which the members of their own class are the only ones who, with their actions, represent the foundation of the republic and of the Nation –Estate.
