A educação como capital social e o papel da escola na reprodução da desigualdade

Abstract

ResumoO artigo trata da reprodução da desigualdade social, tendo a escola como um dos elementos centrais do processo. Toma por orientação as reflexões teóricas e o conceito de capital social conforme Pierre Bourdieu, abordados em especial em duas obras fundamentais sobre o estudo do capital social - A distinção: crítica social do julgamento - e, mais especificamente, sobre o papel do capital social no sistema escolar, na obra A Reprodução: elementos para uma teoria do sistema de ensino, esta última em coautoria com Jean-Claude Passeron. Apesar de concordar com a teoria em seus aspectos fundamentais, a autora discute sua aplicação para o caso brasileiro, entendendo que as considerações dos autores precisam ser relativizadas, face às especificidades da sociedade brasileira.Palavras-chave: capital social; capital escolar; reprodução da desigualdade.Education as social capital and the role of school on inequality reproductionAbstractThis paper approaches social reproduction of inequality, having the school as one of the central elements of the process. Theoretical reflections and the social capital concept are based on Pierre Bourdieu, mainly in two fundamental works - The distinction: social critic of the judgement - and, more specifically, about the social capital role in the school system - The reproduction: elements for a theory of the education system, the latter co-authored by Jean-Claude Passeron. Despite agreeing with the fundamental aspects of the theory, the author considers its application for the Brazilian scenario, understanding that author’s considerations have to be put in the context of the Brazilian society specificities.Key words: social capital, school capital, inequality reproduction.
