[a] The density of a liquid is given by the equation: Ketumpatan suatu cecair diberikan oleh persamaan:     𝜌𝜌 = (1.096 + 0.00086𝑇𝑇)𝑒𝑒0.000953𝑃𝑃    where   ρ = density in g/cm3,  T= temperature in oThe equation is dimensionally consistent.  C and  P= pressure in atm.  di mana   ρ = ketumpatan  g/sm3,  T= suhu o C and  P= tekanan atm.  Persamaan ini konsisten dari segi dimensi.  [i] What are the units of 1.096, 0.00086 and 0.000953? Apakah unit-unit bagi 1.096, 0.00086 dan 0.000953?  [ii] Calculate the density in lb/ft3 for a pressure of 22.044 lbf/in2 and temperature of 527 o  R. [b] In normal living cells, the nitrogen requirement for the cells is provided from protein metabolism.  When individual cell are commercially grown, (NH4)2SO4 is usually used as the source of nitrogen.  Determine the amount of (NH4)2SO4 consumed in a fermentation medium in which the final cell concentration is 35 g/L in a 500 L volume of the fermentation medium. Assume that the cells contain 9 wt. % N, and that (NH4)2SO4   is the only nitrogen source.  Lazimnya bagi sel-sel hidup keperluan nitrogen dibekalkan oleh metabolisma protin. [c] In the production of a drug having a molecular weight of 192, the exit stream from the reactor flows at a rate of 10.5 L/min.  The drug concentration is 41.2 % (in water), and the specific gravity of the solution is 1.024. [9 marks/markah]   2. [a] Compressed propane has been suggested as a source of fuel for motor vehicle because they generate lower levels of pollutants than others.  In a simple test, 20 kg of propane (C3H8) is burned with 400 kg of air to produce 44 kg of CO2  and 12 kg of CO.  The reaction take place as follows: Propana termampat telah dicadangkan sebagai sumber bahan api untuk kenderaan bermotor kerana ia menjana tahap pencemaran yang lebih rendah berbanding bahan api lain.  Dalam satu kajian yang mudah, 20 kg propana (C3H8) dibakar dengan 400 kg udara untuk menghasilkan 44 kg CO2  dan 12 kg CO.  Tindakbalas tersebut berlaku seperti berikut: C3H8 + 5 O2 → 3 CO2 + 4 H2 O  Calculate the percentage of excess air. Kirakan peratus udara berlebihan.                                          [12 marks/markah]   [b] Figure Q.2.[b]. shows that a distillation column separates 10,000 kg/h of a 50% benzene – 50% toluene mixture.  The top product (D) recovered from the condenser contains 95% benzene, and the bottom product (W) from the column contains 96% toluene.  The vapour stream (V) entering the condenser from the top of the column is 8000 kg/h.  A portion of the product from the condenser is returned to the column as reflux (R). [a] Figure Q.3.[a]. shows a tubular membrane used to separate/absorb CO2 from air.  The feed stream (F) enters the tubular membrane and goes out at the other end as the retentate stream.  The internal surface of the membrane has been coated which makes the membrane CO2 selective where only CO2 permeated through the membrane instead of O2 and N2 .  The efficiency of the membrane is 92%.  Calculate: Rajah S.3.[a] menunjukkan membran tiub yang digunakan untuk memisahkan/menyerap CO2 dari udara.  Aliran suapan (F) memasuki membran tiub dan keluar pada hujung yang lain sebagai aliran retentat. The molar composition of the inspired and expired gases are as in Table Q.4.[b].  The inspired gas is at 24 oC and 1 atm, and the expired gas is at 37 oC and 1 atm.  Nitrogen is not transported into or out of the blood in the lungs, so that (N2)in = (N2)out .
