Within the pilot scheme “KOLK” in Northern Germany it was proved how to integrate species conservation measures in organic arable farming. Management specifications included small scale division of large fields, limitation of mechanical weed control and creation of flower strips. Recordings of butterflies showed higher species diversity and total abundance in wildlife-friendly managed fields compared to reference sites. Registration of breeding birds resulted in no distinct differences between cultivation systems
