The article discusses approaches to the interpretation of the term "democratic transition", the relevance of this phenomenon in political science. The problem of allocation of phases of democratic transition and particular qualities of key phases of this phenomenon are touched upon. There is an assessment of Russian democratic reforms initiated in the country since 1985 and their impact on the result of Russia's democratic transition. On the basis of historical analysis characteristics of phases of Russia's democratic transition are revealed. There is a description of the problem of stagnation of the country at the stage of democratization and transformation of transitional condition to hybrid political regime. The existing political science options for assessing the result of Russia's democratic transit are considered.В статье рассматриваются подходы к интерпретации термина «демократический транзит», актуальность данного феномена в политологии. Затрагивается проблема выделения этапов демократического транзита, а так же особенности ключевых стадий данного феномена. Дается оценка демократических преобразований начатых в стране с 1985 года и их влияние на результат демократического транзита России. На основе исторического анализа выявлены особенности стадий демократического транзита России. Поднимается проблема застоя страны на стадии демократизации и преобразования переходного состояния в гибридный политический режим. Рассматриваются существующие в политологии варианты оценки результата демократического транзита России
