Abstract
The Lamentation altar at Santiago de Compostela's cathedral, a unique piece within the terracotta sculptures founf in the Iberian peninsula, was made in Seville by the French sculptor Miguel Perrin (or Perin) in 1526-1528. The paper analyses the terms of contract, includung all material and iconographic changes agreed upon and carried out before work startet, together with Perrin's conceptual and iconographic sources. This work offers a new approach to that relief, which was specifically made for the chapel endowed by Juan Ibáñez Mondragón
