An important task is to ensu-re consistency between develop-ment and growth.According to this, we show thenecessity of establishing the Centerfor Sustainable Development Indi-cators, Education and Public Infor-mation in order to prevent those badinfluences. This Center should ob-serve and collect data about possibleinfluences between economy andenvironment, based on territorialcriteria. Territorial aspects of envi-ronmental impact are crucial forsuccessful environment risk mana-gement and minimizing of cross-bor-der impact. The aims of the impactassessment are to improve and sim-plify regulatory environment.Collecting the data for territo-rial impact assessments is the firststep in developing the Geoinforma-tic Environmental and EconomicCenter. NBS is the leader in promo-ting this idea in Vojvodina. Buildingthis Center represents the effort ofNBS in involving Vojvodina ine–E&E (economy and environmen-tal) region.Contributions ofALADIN to eRegionDevelopment - TheUniversity of Economics - Prague PerspectivesThe University of Economics -Prague, established in 1953, is cur-rently the leading economics univer-sity in the Czech Republic. It has sixfaculties: Finance and Accounting,International Relations, Informaticsand Statistics, Business Administra-tion, Economics and Public Admini-stration, Management; at this timethere are more then 12,000 under-graduate students. Approximately200 students are currently pursuingdoctorates and University staff is re-presented by about 930 academicsand 1,020 support staff.The University of Economics -Prague grants to its students degreesin economics, management and in-formatics at the bachelor’s, master’sand doctoral levels. This number re-presents 45 % of all students stud-ying economics at institutions of hig-her learning in the Czech Republic,which is the sixth largest in terms ofstudent enrollment. The University,which offers tuition and trainingcomparable to well-known academicinstitutions abroad and occupies theleading position among schools of itskind in the Czech Republic.The University of Economics -Prague has long been involved in in-ternational co-operation. It has par-ticipated in a large number of pro-jects in positions of coordinator,contractor or project partner in se-veral international programs inclu-ding Aktion, Konrad Adenauer Stif-tung, Tempus, Phare, Socrates, Leo-nardo da Vinci, Esprit, Copernicus,Eureca, FP6 and FP 7 and others.The University is a member of theCEMS (Community of EuropeanManagement Schools Programme)universities community and PIM(Partnership in International Mana-gement).One part of the University's ac-tivities, especially activities in area ofstructural sciences (mathematic, sta-tistic, operation research) and infor-matics, are performed at the Facultyof Informatics and Statistics. Its de-partments and study programmesfocus on certain fields of informatics(information systems, state and pub-lic administration systems, e-govern-ment, e- business, information tech-nologies, information management,and knowledge systems) as well ason mathematically oriented discipli-nes (statistics, econometrics, opera-tions research, and demography).The research and development workat the faculty corresponds with thespecialization of individual depart-ments and is targeted at fulfilling theresearch aims of the faculty and atreceiving and solving the projects ofvarious grant agencies, mainly theGrant Agency of the Czech Repub-lic, the Development Fund, and se-veral foreign agencies. The Cuperti-no with a number of important sub-jects, i.e. MFF UK, ÚTIA, ^VUT,the Czech Statistical Office and fo-reign universities is also consideredto be very important. All the re-search activities' results are suppor-ted by many publications, presenta-tions at international conferences,organizing conferences and semi-nars for a wide professional public,publishing specialized magazinesand collections, running various pro-jects and writing expert reports. Thescience and research activities ensu-re the high quality of academic staffand further development of thestudy programmes at the faculty.One type of co-operation is rela-tively new, having started about oneyear ago (on May 2005), when theUniversity of Economics - Praguebecame the member university inALADIN group.The ALADIN acti-vity framework represents a widerange of potential collaborations forour university. There are three mainstreams on our university, in whichwe have serious interest to start jointactions. These are: research and development work, PhD student education, a general platform for startingand realizing of common pro-jects and preparing publicationswith our newly found partners.What are our expectations inthe above-mentioned areas?Research and development workis one of the integral parts of every-day university life. Each of us per-forms this work and occasionally it isa burden. However, we need to meetnew colleagues, to hear new opi-nions, to change our paradigms andto try to find out new added value inour work. What is the main goal in thispart in the framework of ALADINgroup for our school? It is to offerthe chance to our PhD students atfirst to present and to discuss theirideas on the international field, thento be members of international re-search and development teams (forexample in living laboratories) andin the last level to take part on edu-cational process not only at thehome university, but also at otherpartner universities of the ALADINgroup.The General platform for star-ting and realizing of common pro-jects and preparing publicationswith our newly found partners is themost important of co-operation.Here all previously described activi-ties in the form of common projectscould be integrated, supported eit-her by EU or by local authorities.The Faculty of Informatics and Stati-stics offers practical experience forfinding partners for common pro-jects in following areas: general concepts of informationsociety, research of complexitytheory, chaos theory etc., e-commerce, e-business, e-heal-thcare, information and communicationtechnology security – also in va-rious modification as e-societysafe and stable, safe e-region,Web services security etc., e-government and public infor-mation services, information systems for enter-prises – ERP systems improve-ment, business processes, infor-mation system architecture,principles of outsourcing, servi-ce level agreements, information systems (IS) projectmanagement – developmentnew methodologies for IS pro-gramming, testing and improve-ment, new concepts of projectmanagement, IS reference mo-dels with special accent to pro-cesses identification, their me-trics definition and measure-ment and evaluation criteria ofprocesses and system effective-ness, etc. artificial intelligence, data-mi-ning, knowledge engineering.Through common internationalprojects we - all citizens of ALADINmember states – have the chance tobuild a new character of the Europe– to constitute new Europeans.Contributions ofALADIN to eRegionDevelopment: ThePerspective of theUniversity of Trieste Due to its particular geographi-cal position and to the very long tra-dition of Trieste as an “European in-tegrator”, in recent decades the Uni-versity of Trieste (www.units.it) hasreinforced its specialization towardresearch and education as well astraining excellence, particularly inthe fields of greatest interest for thedevelopment of an enlarged Europe,with particular attention to thetransformation and integration ofthe transitional countries of Centraland South-East Europe.
