Decker 12 Main Street Orono, Maine OL|ij-73 Dear Dr. Decker: Do you know of the Maine Author Collection? It is an exhibit of Maine writing — books about Maine, or books written by Maine people. Most of the books are inscribed presentation copies, the inscriptions lending particular interest and value to an outstanding collection. Some of the inscriptions are simple autographs, some are autobiographically revealing, some are humorous, some artistic; buy they all contribute a distinction. We also gather biographical and critical material about our authors, and try to have complete information for visitors and students. Your book RAILROAD, LAND AND POLITICS is^an important book, of course; and you were born in Maine, we understand, We hope, therefore, that you may want to inscribe and present a copy of your book for inclusion in the Maine Author Collection. It would give us pleasure as well as pride to place this work with the other Maine books. However, it was reprinted in 1966 and perhaps I can get a copy from the publisher. I have extra copies of niether print­ing. It is possible that the publisher can come up with a stray copy of the first printing. If so, I assume that you would prefer it. At any rate, I shall be happy to donate whatever I come up with.
