From the Editors 
 
Thank you for reading the first issue of K-12 STEM Education! We are pleased to share 
interesting and informative articles about STEM education from experienced educators and 
creative students.  
 
Starting a journal is not an easy task. This first issue has been in the making for several 
months. Even coming up with a fitting name for the journal was a challenge, as other newly 
launched journals quickly grabbed the obvious key words for their publications.  Our name 
reflects not only the main theme of the journal, but also the target audience, which includes 
classroom teachers, school administrators, curriculum consultants, and teacher educators 
and researchers. 
 
Another challenge, of course, is letting 
educators know that the journal, which 
is not yet published, really exists! No 
Internet search pulls up a journal that 
is still being developed and designed, 
so no small amount of networking was 
required. Not only local educators, but 
also colleagues around the world were 
contacted, asked to consider 
submitting a manuscript, and to share 
information about the journal with 
their professional contacts. Because it 
is both an international and peer-
reviewed publication, it attracted 
attention from serious professionals. 
Of course, as they will tell you, they were not contacted only once: a certain amount of 
regular polite cajoling was required, as everyone has a busy schedule. But we have been 
rewarded, as you will see as you look through this and subsequent issues, by submissions 
from creative, talented, and experienced educators who found the time to contribute. Others 
have since sent in manuscripts that you will see in later issues. We are especially pleased to 
have received a manuscript from a talented group of high school students whose innovative 
project is the subject of their article. 
 
This is a team effort, with suggestions from an impressive list of Associate Editors and 
reviewers, as well as a great deal of time given by IPST’s hard working staff. We appreciate 
everyone’s input and welcome yours as well. 
 
K-12 STEM Education is a quarterly online publication that will continue to evolve. We hope 
that you find the articles stimulating and useful, and that you will also consider contributing 
manuscripts as we grow. Welcome to K-12 STEM Education!
