Over the last few hundred years China twice had a chance to become a regional power. The country now faces a historic chance to become a powerhouse of global dimension. The role that Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping played in building this chance is invaluable. And probably is the cornerstone of today’s China’s position on the stage of international relations. This article deals with the historical outline of China since 1949 and China’s policy-making on the way to become a superpower. An attempt was made to answer the question: is China destinated for success? Will the twenty-first century be the age of the dragon? What is the contemporary politics of China?
