The paper contains some scientific information on Władysław Zajączkowski (1837–1898) and on his first Polish monograph about ordinary and partial differential equations. Moreover, the aim of this paper is a presentation of selected scientific results of Polish mathematicians publishing in the nineteenth century in the field of ordinary and partial differential equations.
