Call for Evidence Submitted to the Glasgow Economic Commission

Abstract

The Glasgow Economic Commission, chaired by Prof Jim McDonald, Strathclyde University, comprised leading business, academic and economic experts to advise on economic prospects and delivering a new strategy for the city. This ‘Call for Evidence’ submission sought to highlight the vital role that design plays within innovation and the wider economic context. It highlights the educational and research/knowledge exchange role of GSA in contributing to innovation and economic success. The paper and its content was referenced in the Glasgow Economic Commission final report (June 2011). Furthermore, in line with one of the recommendations made, in November 2011, Scottish Enterprise commissioned the Design Innovation Studio to develop the Design Innovation Support Programme to assist SMEs to use design strategically. Following the participation of 40 companies, the successful pilot has been extended to become a permanent innovation product in the SE portfolio
