The student will also begin completing University Institutional Review (IRB) forms.  Required Reading: L.F. Locke, W.W. Spirduso, and S.J. Silverman  (2007).  Proposals That Work (5th ed.): SAGE Publications  Publication Manual of the American Psychology Association (2009).  (6th  ed.).    Course Goals: To develop a final version of the research proposal. To develop a oral presentation of research proposal To defend oral presentation To complete and submit IRB and IBC form  To complete a pilot study to ensure competence of research methodology  Course Policies:  Classroom Etiquette: A student-centered university conveys high expectations for appropriate behavior and is designed to assist students in the development of an informed set of values, ethics, and beliefs. Late assignments will be penalized.   Tentative Course Content and Schedule    Week Topic Tasks 1/12 Opening Class meeting, Review of Expectations Syllabus 1/19 Research Proposal – Full Expectations Chapter 1: The Function of the Proposal Chapter 6: Style and Form in Writing the Proposal Finishing Chapters 1-3 and prepare IRB application     2/2 Chapter 2: Doing the Right Thing: “The Habit of Truth” Chapter 4: Content of the Proposal: Important Considerations Continue Chapters 1-3 and IRB  2/9 How to Write a Methods Section Submit draft of proposal (Chap 1-3) and IRB  2/16 The Proposal: Putting it All Together Review Feedback  2/23 Chapter 7: The Oral Presentation Submit another draft    3/9 Expectations of Proposal:  How to be Successful Submit IRB for review 3/16 No Class Spring Break  3/22 Begin Completing forms for Honor’s Program   Awaiting IRB feedback    4/6 Making the Changes Resubmit IRB  4/13 Finalizing the Proposal  4/20 No Class Work on Proposal 4/27 Last Class & Final Discussions 1.  Turn in Final Proposal to Honor’s Program 2. Contact Dr. Walker with IRB approval information   The content of this syllabus is tentative.  There is a possibility of change.  The instructor will make all good faith efforts to provide adequate notification when changes occur.
