Promoting and protecting the rights of migrant workers : a UN road map; a guide for Asian NGOs to the International Human Rights System and other mechanisms

Abstract

This edition contains valuable information on United Nations and International Labour Organization ILO instruments and mechanisms available to civil society and non-governmental organizations (NGO) addressing the issues of migrant workers. It allows NGOs to identify the international mechanisms available in cases of violations of human rights. The Road Map is designed to suggest effective strategies to better promote and protect the rights of Asian migrant workers, particularly women. Three aspects of their experience set women apart: their status as women; their status as non-nationals; and being compelled to migrate to escape poverty or violence
