Abstract
Analisar aspectos da história do Rio Grande do Sul a partir da perspectiva do uso de práticas de violência política, especialmente no período da república velha. O foco principal de estudo são as cisões ocorridas no Partido Republicano Rio-grandense – PRR – e a violência como recurso para se obter o controle político no PRR do município de São Borja. Palavras-chave: violência política, coronelismo, PRR.This article aims at analyzing the aspects of political history in Rio Grande do Sul, from the perspective of the practices of political violence, especially in the old republic period. The main focus is the ruptures that took place in the Partido Republicano Riograndense – PRR (Republican Party of io Grande do Sul), and the use of violence as a mean to obtain political control of the PRR in the municipality of São Borja.
