Transforming gender and food security in the global South

Abstract

Co-published with RoutledgeThe first section of this book focuses on the Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI) and its adaptations for different projects and contexts. The second section moves from measurement to empowerment; gender roles and relations exist within a broader social and cultural context. Part III of the book focuses on how gender interacts within this broad context, and the implications for food security. The final part of the book focuses on approaches to transforming gender relations. This book makes the case that gender equality and the empowerment of women must be central to any efforts to improve agricultural productivity, and food and nutrition security
