Ao se determinar o período crítico do algodoeiro herbáceo ao ataque do bicudo, e estudando-se táticas de manejo integrado de pragas, em Queimadas, PB e Surubim, PE, os resultados mostram que: o período crítico foi desde surgimento dos primeiros botões florais até o aparecimento dos primeiros capulhos; 10% de botões florais (com orifício de oviposição) podem ser considerados como nível de controle para o bicudo; o complexo ecológico de inimigos naturais existentes no ecossistema do algodoeiro foi capaz de exercer controle sobre o pulgão; a tática que se apresentou como vantajosa, em termos econômicos e ecológicos, foi a empregada a partir do surgimento dos primeiros botões até o aparecimento dos primeiros capulhos na cultura, adotando-se 10% de botões florais danificados pelo bicudo e usando-se cipermetrina 30ED (3,95 g do i.a/ha) com o bico 'bozzle' do pulverizador ElectroDyn entre fileiras, a 20 cm dos ponteiros das plantas, com duas fileiras tratadas por passo.Determining the critical period of the upland cotton plant to the boll weevil attack, and studying the tatics of integrated pest management, the results showed that the critical period was found to be from the appearance of the first square to the setting of the first open bolls; 10% of the squares (with oviposition punctures) may be considered as a control level for boll weevil; the biological complex of natural enemies present in the cotton ecosystem was able to control the cotton aphid; the tatic that best fited for economic and ecological purposes was the use of cypermethrin 30 ED (3.95 g of a.i/ha) with the bozzle nozzle of the ElectroDyn sprayer between rows, 20 cm above the crop canopy, with two rows treated per step, being applied this treatment, from the appearance of the first square to the selting of the first open bolls in the culture, using a control level of 10% of damaged squares
