Delivery of health services in the People's Republic of China

Abstract

In recent years there has been an increasing number of reports on the health system of the People's Republic of China, many of them describing in detail various features of China's health policies and programs. This monograph, which was written with the assistance of a grant from IDRC, draws on these reports and other documents and original Chinese publications in attempting to provide an overview of China's health system. The apparent success of China's system has led many observers to speculate on the relevance of this process for other regions. The author examines this question, and points to aspects of the Chinese system that might be applicable elsewhere
