The first three chapters cover conflict theory, symbolic interactionism, and structural functionalism as the three pillars of sociology, after which institutions such as family, religion, and education are addressed. Finally, five case studies about individuals (Malala Yousafzai), economic structures (garment industry, prostitution), and places (Haiti) encourage readers to apply what they have learned to current events.
