THE ANNUAL FUND A gift to the Annual Fund can be designated for scholarships, various studios, special concerts or to the General Conservatory Fund. Tarentella Adriana Lombardi - cello Ni Peng - piano Oksana Rusina - cello Tao Lin- piano Robert Schumann David Popper ~INTERMISSION~ David Cole Artist Faculty-cello David Cole is an artist who lets truth be his guide, who looks within for knowledge, and is inspired by the mysterious beauty of the Universe. Dedicated to the intentions of the composer while realizing the delicate balance between emotion and form, David creates an extraordinary concert experience. He has twice been soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the National Symphony in Washington, the orchestra in Nice, France, the Solisti L'Aquilani at Carnegie Hall, and more than 75 solo performances with the Abruzzo Symphany in Italy. He was awarded a Martha Baird Rockefeller grant after performing at Carnegie Hall, and recorded trios with famed pianist Rudolf Serkin and violinist Pina Carmirelli. David performed for Pablo Casals on the Bell Telephone Hour as part of a documentary on the Marlboro Festival. David and violinist wife Carol spent many years in Europe where they toured extensively, appearing as soloists and as members of chamber groups and symphony orchestras. David is a forth generation musician. His great grandfather and grandfather were violinists, and his father, Orlando, is famed cellist of the Curtis String Quartet and teacher at the Curtis Institute. David began cello study at four years old with Metta Watts, continuing with his father, Leonard Rose and Zara Nelsova until graduating from the Curtis Institute in 1967. He participated in the Pablo Casals master classes during two summers at Marlboro, and performed and recorded with the orchestra conducted by Casals. David also participated in a Jeuness Musical in Yugoslavia and in the Aspen and Tannglewood music festivals. Cole's musical experience includes playing as a member of many orchestras including La Scala in Milan, the Turin Radio Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony, and, as principle cellist, with the New Jersey Symphony, the Florida Philharmonic, the Abruzzo Symphony, the Bethlehem Bach Festival Orchestra, the Solisti L'Aquilani, the Wilmington Symphony, the Florida Grand Opera, and the Pennsylvania Ballet orchestra. David's love for classical music and his belief in its power as a living art form, have inspired him not only to strive for the highest standards in cello playing, but to devote himself to passing on the knowledge handed down to him by great artists of the past. As a teacher, David began as a teenager at the New School of Music in Philadelphia, continuing at the Istituzione Sinfonica D'Abruzzo, Italy. Over the past decade he has been teaching at the New World School of the Arts in Miami and the Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach. During the summer he teaches, performs and gives master classes at Indiana University. Tao Lin · Artist Faculty - Coordinator Piano Tao Lin's appearances in Asia, North America and Europe have brought unanimous critical accolades and praise for his subtle, intimate pianism and brilliant technique. A versatile musician, he is equally at home as soloist, recitalist and chamber musician. As a soloist, he has performed with Moscow Chamber Orchestra, Winnipeg Symphony, Miami Chamber Orchestra, Knoxville Civic Orchestra, University of Miami Symphony, Harid Philharmonia, and Lynn University Chamber Orchestra. A devoted chamber musician, Mr. Lin has concertized throughout the United States as a founding member of the Berlin Piano Quartet. He has also appeared in concerts with Miami, Bergonzi, Alcon, and Rosalyra String Quartets as well as with distinguished musicians such as Ida Haendel, Charles Castleman, Roberta Peters, Eugenia Zukerman, Philip Quint and members of Metropolitan Opera, Philadelphia, St. Louis, National, Minnesota, Pittsburg, Berlin Staatskaplle Orchestras. Recent and upcoming engagements include concerts in California (Santa Rosa, Yuba City, Gualala Arts Center, Orange County, and La Jolla), New York (Rockefeller University, Chautauqua Institute), Washington DC (The National Gallery of Art, Dumbarton Concerts}, Arkansas (Little Rock), Alabama (Mobile), and Florida (Miami, Sanibel, and Lake Worth). Mr. Lin was awarded top prizes in the competitions of the National Society of Arts and Letters, the Music Teacher's National Association, Palm Beach International Invitational amongst others. He was also a finalist in the lsi International Piano-e-Competition and the lsi Osaka International Chamber Music Competition as a member of the Shanghai Trio. He is currently the Artist Faculty and coordinator of the Collaborative Piano Program at the Conservatory of Music at Lynn University. During summer months, he serves as the official collaborative pianist for Bowdoin International Music Festival. Mr. Lin has worked with a series of distinguished teachers including Joseph Kalichstein, John Perry, Leon Fleisher, Rita Sloan, Stephen Hough, Ivan Davis, David Northington and Roberta Rust. He has recorded for the Piano Lovers and Romeo Records labels. For more information please visit www.taolin.net Joe Goering was born in Waterloo, Iowa in 1985. When he was a young boy, he frequently attended classical music concerts and was an avid listener. At the age of six, he began his studies of music on the piano. Two years later, he switched to cello and instantly fell in love with the tone of the instrument. When he was fifteen, he performed the Saint-Saens Cello Concerto with the Kansas City Symphony. He attended Encore School for strings and Meadowmount Music Camp. His teachers include Eran Meir, Martin Storey, Hans Jensen, Stephen Geber, Orlando Cole, and Metta Watts. He now attends the Lynn University Conservatory of Music, studying with David Cole. Ilie Curteanu was born in 1983 in Romania to a musical family and began playing the cello at age 8. Throughout high school and college he has attended master classes with world renowned cellists such as Alexandru Morosanu(Romania), Wolfgang Hertzer(Austria),Dimitrie Motatu(Spain),Laszlo Varga (Hungary-America)Yehuda Hanani(America). Ilie won several international and national competitions such as: "Citta di Pietra Ligure" in 1999(1 prize Absolute and Special prize) and 2000, National Olympiads(l997,1998,2001), Bacau National Competition (2001),Garabet Avachian National Competition(2001)and many others. He had many recitals, concerts and live radio broadcasts, such as the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Hall "Mihail Jora" and National Television. He has performed as a soloist in the year 2001 with the "Bacau Symphony Orchestra" and "Galati Symphony Orchestra" As a very promising young cellist, Ilie was awarded a scholarship at the Lynn University Conservatory of Music in 2002 for his Undergraduate degree and where he is currently completing his Masters Degree. At Lynn University he studied with Johanne Perron(2002-2005) and is currently studying with renowned professor David Cole. During 2003-2007, Ilie has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in South Florida and as an orchestral musician he has collaborated with major orchestras such as the South West Florida Symphony ,the New Philharmonic, the Symphony of the Americas and Palm Beach Symphony. Oksana Rusina Recognized for her powerful sound and great imagination,Ms Rusina obtainted her Bachelor of Music Performance at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich,Germany where she stadied with famed cellist R.Ginzel.Oksana performed with the "Philharmonie der Nationen" under Maestro Justus Frantz and participated in "Junge Philharmonie Koln"under Maestro Volker Hartung.She has performed in Australia,Norway and Germany as the principal cellist of the orchestra. Alex Fink began music lessons at the age of three. He began playing the cello at age four. He grew up in Melbourne, Florida playing in the Brevard County Youth Orchestra and in a duet with his sister, Ann. He attended the small private Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy through the 7th grade. After relocating to the West Palm Beach area, Alex began playing music in school starting with one year at the Bak Middle School of the Arts under the direction ofNancy Beebe and then progressing to four years at the Dreyfoos School of the Arts, under the direction of Wendell Simmons. During this five year stint in South FL Alex studied privately with the cellist David Cole in Cooper City. After graduating high school, Alex was accepted and spent two years studying at the Juilliard School in New York City. His teacher there was David Soyer of the Guarneri String Quartet. Feeling as though things were not headed quite in the right direction up in the Big Apple, Alex decided to return to the South FL area, transferring to the Music Conservatory at Lynn University to again study with David Cole as well try some other new things that Lynn University might have to offer. The entire time he has been possessed by his love of Music. Adriana Lombardi was Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She studied cello at Tatui Conservatory, Sao Paulo Municipal School of Music and Sao Paulo State University, where her teachers were Eduardo Belo, Gretchen Miller, Zigmunt Kubala and Andre Micheletti. As an orchestral musician Adriana played with Sao Paulo State Youth Orchestra, Municipal Youth Orchestra, Experimental de Repertorio Orchestra, UNESP Bacharelor Orchestra, Fukuda Chamber Orchestra, Bank Boston Chamber Orchestra and as a soloist played with Sao Paulo State Youth Orchestra and Curitiba International Festival Orchestra. She was a finalist of the Piracicaba Youth Competition(2003).Adriana has participated in many master classes and festivals with Adriane Savitsky, Alceu Reis, Antonio Meneses, Claudio Jaffe, David Chew, Fred Pott, Hans Jensen, Marc Johnson, Peter Szabo, RaifDantas, Roman Mekinulov and Wilson Sampaio. Adriana Lombardi is currently enrolled in the Professional Performance Certificate program at Lynn University as a student of David Cole. Ni Peng Born in Guangzhou, China, pianist Ni Peng was admitted to the XingHai Conservatory at the age of 12, she later earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the Shanghai Conservatory. During her studies in China, she was a price winner in the Xing Hai Piano Competition as well as participation in many Masterclasses given by Russian and American visiting artists. She is currently a Master of Music student at the Conservatory of Music at Lynn University studying with Tao Lin. Her principle teachers in China were Dr.Xiao Bei Zhu, Mei Li, Gao De Dai, Chen Jiang and Hong Huang. Aziz Sapaev the winner of the first prize in the first inte~ational young musicians competition held among most prestigious musical institutions in Turkey, winner of the first prize in national cello competition in Edirne, Turkey, winner ofthe third prize in the 5th International Young Musical Talents, has been engaged in solo concerts in most prestigious concert halls as Grand Hall ofTchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, Russia, CRR concert hall in Istanbul, Turkey. Aziz started his cello studies as a ten year old at Uspenskiy's School for Musically Gifted Children in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Next year Aziz was invited in Trakya University in Turkey where he completed his middle-school and high-school education. During his education years he has been engaged in solo and orchestral concerts in different cities of Turkey. As of now, Aziz has been enrolled in full time music studies with David Cole, at Lynn University. Caleb Jones recently graduated from the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University with a Performer's Certificate. While at Peabody Mr. Jones was a student of Alan Stepansky and a recipient of the Steven Kates Memorial Scholarship. He attended the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities. In 2002, Mr. Jones won the Greenville Symphony Orchestra (South Carolina) apprenticeship and in 2003, he was the recipient of the Emerson Scholarship of the Interlochen Arts Camp. In the summers of2005 and 2006, he attended the Music Academy of the West where he studied with Alan Stepansky and David Geber and chamber music with Peter Salaff, Jerome Lowenthal, and members of the Tackacs andBrentano String Quartets. In April2006, Mr. Jones won the "2006 Rising Star Award" from the Howard County Arts Council (MD). Mr. Jones has collaborated with many composers and premiered many new works in venues such as the Kennedy Center's Terrace Theater. In the spring of2006, he was a member of "Living Music", which was a series of chamber music concerts in New York and Baltimore that featured music of young composers, Ying-Chen Kao and David Witmer. The musicians were coached by composer Christopher Theofanidis and violinist Pamela Frank. In March 2006, he was guest soloist and masterclass clinician with Maryland's Frederick Youth Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Jones was a featured artist for the "2006 Peabody at Homewood Concert Series" in which he presented an unaccompanied recital that included a composition of his own.
