LettersAuthor Response: Comparison of Local Structure–Function Relationships and Dynamic Range inGlaucomaWe greatly appreciate the interest of Dr. Wang1 in our article2 and would like to express our thanks for the opportunity to addressthe issues raised by Dr. Wang.A goal of this study was to compare the dynamic range of measurements for various macular parameters. Hence, 8 normal eyeswere added to the sample to provide the a wide range of macular measurements from normal to advanced glaucoma. Since nocomparison of various macular measures between normal and glaucomatous eyes was planned, we believe this number of eyes wasadequate. More normal eyes in the sample would inflate the top portion of the bivariate structure-function plots, withoutsignificantly adding to the power of the study, especially since 24 individual superpixel and sensitivity measurements per eye wereavailable.We agree with Dr. Wang that findings derived from a cross-sectional study may not provide a definitive answer to the hypothesestested in the study, and we have clearly acknowledged that in the paper. Our sample was derived from baseline data of an ongoinglongitudinal study. We plan to use the longitudinal data from this study, once complete, to seek a definitive answer to thehypotheses explored here.
