A prevalência do H. pylori e da gastrite crônica antral em 101 pacientes sintomáticos submetidos consecutivamente à investigação endoscópica e histológica entre 1989 e 1991 é analisada. As biópsias dos 101 pacientes foram avaliadas histologicamente e descritas conforme a Classificação de Sydnei , Austrália . Os pacientes foram observados quanto à sintomatologia, sexo e idade. Aspectos sócio-econômicos foram somente comentados . Dos 78 pacientes com gastrite crônica antral, 57 apresenta - vam infestação pelo H. pylori e 21 não demonstravam o H. pylori . Não ocorreu nenhum caso de H. pyl ori nos 23 pacientes sem alteração de mucosa compatível com gastrite crônica antral . . ... . ( p= o 1 o o o 0 1 ) • A sintomatologia , sexo e idade nao interferiram com a as- sociação . Estes dados permitem demonstrar forte associação entre gastrite crônica antral e H. pylori.Helicobacter pylori's preyalence and chronic anthral gastritis is analysed consecutively in 101 sympthomatic patients with endoscopic and hystological investigation from 1989 to 1991. The biopsy of 101 patients were submited to hystological avaliation and described under Sydnei Classification, Australia. The patients were observed concerning the sympthomatology, sex and age. The social and economical aspects were only mentioned. From 78 patients with chronic anthral gastritis, 57 were infested by H. pylori and in 21 this didn't happen. In 23 patients without mucosal alteration compatible with chronic anthral gas - tritis, the presence of H. pylori wasn't found (p; 0,00001). The sympthomatology, sex and age didn't interfere with the described association. These data allow to demonstrate the strong association between chronic anthral gastritis and H. pylori
