Abstract

Note on the pronunciation of the Romanian names: The vowels a, e, i, o and u should generally be pronounced approximately as in Italian, with the exception of a final i, which is usually silent; i or e before another vowel sounds like English y (e.g. Ion resembles the English yon). The vowel â or î resembles the i in fill, and ă sounds like the a in about. The consonants ş and ţ are pronounced like English sh and tz respectively.
