Neste artigo descreve-se a análise feita relativamente ao estado da arte da artroplastia do joelho de
diversos países que apresentam registos de actividade ortopédica. Factores como idade e sexo dos
pacientes e outros referentes às próteses (componentes tibial e femoral) são analisados e comparados.
Entre estes, deve-se referir a incidência da artroplastia do joelho por escalão etário e género e os motivos
mais frequentes para a sua prescrição e realização. Relativamente ao implante em si, faz-se a comparação
com base nos métodos de fixação, nos cimentos e próteses mais utilizadas.This paper describes the state of art of the knee arthroplasty of different countries that present orthopaedic
registers. Several factors such as patient’s age and sex and others relatively to prostheses (tibial and
femoral components) are analyzed and compared. Among these, the incidence by age and gender as well
as the most frequent motivations for the realization of knee arthroplasties are discussed. Concerning the
