A 14.6 ha (36 acre) natural area consisting of marshes, moist to dry sandy prairie, and wet to moist swale was found 16 km (10 miles) northwest of the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls. An annotated flora of 280 species of vascular plants was compiled during the 1970 growing season. In addition to many species of vascular plants restricted to prairie remnants, sphagnum moss occurs in small patches in the swale.
