Getting involved “provided a way for meto make such a big place more approachable,” Ubellsays.Ubell got involved with several organizations: theMissouri Students Association, Outreach, SummerWelcome, Greek Life and Homecoming SteeringCommittee, among others.“Through all of these things, I was able to haveleadership experiences that formed the foundation ofskills that I still use today,” Ubell says.She also developed a network of friends who serve asprofessional sounding boards and coaches.“We might not be in the same industries,” Ubell says,“but their professional successes and points of vieware relevant to me, and I still learn from these peopletwo decades later.”After graduating magna cum laude from Mizzou inhttps://mizzoumag.missouri.edu/2015/01/continuing-the-tradition/index.html 4/21/2021, 2:55 PM1997 with degrees in business administration andinternational studies, Ubell went on to earn an MBAfrom the University of Michigan and work for mutipleFortune 500 companies. Now she leads corporatestrategy and continuous improvement at Grainger inLake Forest, Illinois.Ubell says the combination of classroom learning andextracurricular leadership experiences was critical toher success.She made a gift to the Mizzou Student Experiencefund in 2013. “While giving money to my colleges isimportant,” Ubell explains, “I wanted to support thegrooming I was able to gain through extracurricularactivities.
