Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz (1885-1939) demeure un artiste peu connu en France alors que la majorité de ses écrits a été traduite en français. Pourtant, dans les disciplines qu’il pratiquait, il a développé et anticipé de nombreux courants. La langue singulière de Witkiewicz présente de multiples défis pour ses traducteurs et notamment la transposition des prénoms et des noms des protagonistes witkiewicziens est un exemple particulièrement intéressant. En raison de leur sémantique et de leur morphologie mais aussi de leur fonction dans les textes, ces noms incitent les traducteurs à utiliser divers procédés.The author Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz (1885-1939) is still little known in France although the majority of his works have been translated into French. Within the numerous fields he explored, he developed and anticipated many currents. Witkiewicz’s idiosyncratic language presents his translators with numerous challenges. Among these, the transposition of the first and last names of Witkiewiczean heroes is a particularly interesting example. Their semantics and morphology, as well as their function in the texts prompt translators to adopt different translation strategies
