This thesis explores two types of 
predictive factors in depression
treatment. In the first part the 
predictive value of easily identifiable 
patient characteristics for outcome of 
Short-term Psychodynamic Supportive 
Psychotherapy (SPSP), pharmaco-
therapy and a combination of both is 
investigated. The second part regards 
the role of object relational functioning 
and defense styles according to the 
Developmental Profile for SPSP.
