Abstract

The border region of Corumbá presents itself as the recent result of a long process of genesis and consolidation. During this process, it evolued from an ‘indigenous frontier’ to a space of transnational integration, where its territorial reconfiguration occurred simultaneously with the increase of the migratory circulation and a new tendencie of growth and spatial redistribution of the population, revealing new functions of its geopolitical role in the international socio-economic order, specifically in the MERCOSUL context.A região fronteiriça de Corumbá se apresenta como o resultado recente de um longo processo de gênese e consolidação.
